Commercial Urban Agriculture in Florida: Needs, Opportunities, and Barriers

Florida, like much of the southeastern United States, is rapidly urbanizing. With this urbanization, there an increasing interest in commercial urban agriculture (CUA) as important sector for state. The U.S. Department Agriculture Census does not report data about CUA operations, thus limiting knowledge status operations regarding basic features such farm size, operator demographics, production systems, sources revenue, barriers to business and profitability, future opportunities development. Because previous research has found differences farmers’ demographics their perceptions opportunities, purpose was characterize Florida understand primary needs, barriers, developing CUA, well operators’ informational needs preferred formats.
